Pneumonia
One of the most serious infectious diseases, pneumonia is an inflammation of the lungs. If both the lungs are affected, it is especially serious, and is called double pneumonia. Pneumonia is an illness of the lungs and respiratory system, caused by various causes including bacterial infection, viral infection, fungal infection, or infestation by parasites. It can also occur as a result of a chemical of physical injury, or as a result of another medical condition such as lung cancer or alcohol abuse.
Symptoms of pneumonia include cough, chest pain, fever, and difficulty breathing. Diagnostic tools include X-rays, examination of sputum, and physical examination. Bacterial pneumonia can be treated with antibiotics.
Home Remedies For Pneumonia:
Tea:
During the early stages of pneumonia, a tea made from fenugreek seeds will help the body to produce perspiration, dispel toxicity, and reduce fever. Up to four cups of fenugreek tea can be taken daily. The quantity can be reduced as the condition improves. To improve the flavor of the tea, a few drops of lemon juice, or honey may be added. During this treatment, nothing other than fenugreek tea should be taken. Fasting and fenugreek tea will help correct these respiratory problems in a few days.
Garlic:
Garlic is a good home remedy for pneumonia. It brings down the temperature, pulse rate, and respiration within forty-eight hours.
Sesame Seeds:
An infusion of sesame seeds can be made by steeping 15 gm of seeds in 250 ml of water. This infusion, mixed with a tablespoon of linseed, a pinch of common salt, and a teaspoon of honey, should be given as an expectorant. Another good cough remedy is sarsaparilla. Pulverize dried sarsaparilla roots, and combined them with sweet flag roots in warm water. Take by the tablespoon, as needed for coughs.
Parsnip Juice:
Parsnip juice has been found beneficial in the treatment of pneumonia. The juice of the leaves and root of this plant possess high therapeutic value. The phosphorus and chlorine elements contained in them are particularly beneficial to the lungs and the bronchial system; and are an excellent home remedy for pneumonia when given 250 ml daily. Carrot juice, in combination with either spinach or beet, and cucumber juice, has also been found useful in pneumonia. In these combinations, 200 ml of spinach juice or 100 ml each of beet and cucumber juices should be mixed with 300 ml of carrot juice to prepare 500 ml or half a liter of combined juice.
Willow Bark:
Willow bark or feverwort teas help bring down the fever, and keep the patient more comfortable until the pneumonia passes.
