Age Spot

Though unrelated to liver, or liver function, sun induced skin changes; often called liver spots, or age spots, are flat brown or black spots that usually occur in the most sun exposed areas of the body, such as the shoulders, arms, or face.

Age spots usually occur around the age of forty. Though they are not painful or harmful, they can mask skin cancer in its earliest stages.

There are home remedies and natural cures to help with the appearance of age spots.

Home Remedies for Age Spots

Preventative Measures

  • Using sun screens, even in the winter, but especially in the summer months.
  • Avoid sun exposure from noon until 2:00 P.M.
  • Wearing protective clothing, like hats and sleeves can also help prevent age spots.

Lemon Juice

Dabbing the spots once or twice a day with lemon juice might take a few months but it will cause the spots to fade.

Be sure to let the juice dry before going out in the sun, because it will cause you to be more sensitive to the sun’s effects while it is wet.

Green Walnut Juice

Take black walnuts in the green stage (before they are fully ripe) cut them open, and rub them on the age spots.

This may temporarily cause the rubbed area to darken, or sting, but it is said to be a very effective natural cure for age spots.

Buttermilk

Buttermilk has long been used as a remedy for skin ailments from sunburn to acne, to reducing pores, and even used as a facial cleanser.

It is also said that buttermilk, dabbed on age spots with a cotton ball will result in the lightening of age spots.

Castor Oil

Massage castor oil into the age spots, once or twice a day, and they should disappear within a month.

Dandelions

Break open a dandelion stem, and rub the sap into the age spots two or three times a day.

This is also good for wart removal, and Will Greer (Grandpa Walton) was said to have used this natural cure successfully.
