Lethargy
Lethargy is a term which refers to a general feeling of tiredness and bone deep fatigue in the body.
This is not an illness in itself but is a symptom that could be indicative of just about any illness.
A general feeling of malaise, aches and pains in various joints of the body, the inability or unwillingness to do any work are all characteristics of lethargy.
Such an acute feeling of tiredness can be both physical and mental. Over exhaustion due to sudden increase in muscle activity or exercising too much might lead to physical lethargy wherein a person is unable to put in enough stress on the muscles to get a job done.
Depression or being mentally over stimulated or under stimulated can also lead to lethargy of a different kind. This is all in the mind and can cause somnolence or even increased attention leading to insomnia.
Any activity which involves intense concentration like driving a vehicle should not be undertaken while this somnolence persists.
One should not ignore this symptom if it lasts long. It might be due something as trivial as constipation or lack of sleep; however, it might also be a precursor to a serious illness.
Medical consultation is a must if such intense tiredness lasts for more than a few days.
