Travel Sickness

Travel sickness might also be called motion sickness, airsickness, sea sickness, car sickness, or the medical term is kinetosis.

Kinetosis is a condition where what you see disagrees with the movement. This happens because your body, inner ear, and your eyes start sending differing signals to the brain.

Common symptoms of all the different travel sicknesses include nausea, dizziness, cold sweats, and fatigue. If the motion doesn’t stop you can add vomiting to the list. Unfortunately vomiting does not relieve the nausea if the motion doesn’t stop.

If you tend to get sick from this there are some things you can do that might diminish the possibility of getting ill. Dietary remedies include abstaining from greasy or acidic foods for at least two hours before you travel. If you're a coffee drinker, don't drink it before traveling.

While you should avoid certain foods, you should still eat something. Traveling on an empty stomach can also cause travel sickness. For this before travel meal choose fruit, cereal, bread, and beverages like water, milk, or apple juice. Make sure to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water before, during, and after traveling.

Natural Remedies for Travel Sickness:

Ginger:

One of the best natural remedies for any type of nausea, ginger is a great choice for treating travel sickness. Start consuming ginger twelve hours before you travel. You can take a dried ginger supplement, eat gingersnap cookies or candied ginger, make tea from ginger root, or drink ginger ale.

If you are going on an extended sea voyage you can start taking ginger several days before your scheduled departure. Ginger helps fight travel sickness because it keeps the stomach from getting inflamed and nauseous.

Peppermint:

Peppermint is another great home remedy for travel sickness. It works to combat the nausea caused by motion sickness. You can make a tea by steeping leaves for up to ten minutes in hot water, or chew on a peppermint leave before and during travel, or when you are feeling queasy.

Black Horehound:

In the same family as mint, black horehound works in combination with herbals like meadowsweet, chamomile, or ginger in order to relieve nausea. To prepare steep the selected herbs with the black horehound for 10 to 15 minutes in hot water. Drink a cup of the tea three times a day. Black Horehound in a tincture can be taken for travel sickness three times per day.
