Louse
One of the most annoying insects, if you can even call it an insect is the louse. Anyone who has ever had children in school can certainly attest to the irritation of this pest. It often carries the stigma of uncleanliness; but no one is exempt from its invasion. The louse is able to jump from person to person, so just being close to someone who has been infested can cause another to become infested.
The shampoos, both over the counter and prescription, are toxic as well as foul smelling, in addition to burning the scalp that is raw from the itching. There have been an abundance of home remedies handed down from generation to generation, and though all work in their own way, some require a great deal more time than others do.
Home Remedies For A Louse:
Electronic Comb:
One of the best inventions to be developed at the time, this little gadget was handy for schoolchildren. Run it through their hair before they went to school, and it was supposed to prevent lice from entering the head. The electronic charge stayed in the hair all throughout the day, and repelled the insects.
Oil Based Products:
Passed down for generations as the cure-all for lice are the oily products such as mayonnaise, peanut butter, and salad oil. Though these products do work well, they require a time frame for working. Whichever one you choose to use, the process is the same. Massage liberally into the hair, preferably at night before going to bed, and allow it to remain for several hours before shampooing the hair. The oil will cause the lice to drown and die. It’s important to remember that you will still need to treat your home and any other items the infected person may have contacted such as sheets, pillowcases, and the like. Kerosene has also had its day as a home remedy for lice, but most people who do use this method do so only when all else fails. Aside from being toxic, there is likely to be severe burning when applied, because of the sores caused by itching.
Homeopathic Products:
Natural cures such as some over the counter homeopathic products are also available. These products use natural ingredients that are non-toxic in order to kill both the lice and their nits. This natural cure is better for both the person using the product as well as others who may encounter it.
